Cry If You Need To

Y'all know that expression, "Don't cry over spilled milk"? Well, I'd like to change "milk" to "water" and "don't cry" to "cry if you need to."

The picture below was taken about two minutes after a cup of ice-cold water that I'd just gotten for myself slipped out of my hand. The cup busted (a bummer because it was actually my daughter's), and water and ice went everywhere.

All over the kitchen floor. All over me.

I didn't cry. I wanted to, but for some reason, the tears just wouldn't come.

But there have been PLENTY of times before when I've cried over spilled water, or milk, or apple juice, or cereal, or oatmeal, or...well, you get the point.

And ya know what? That's okay. I must've needed to cry on those days.

Because life is hard. I don't need to tell y'all that, but I will anyway.

Life is HARD, and sometimes you just need a good, soul-cleansing cry. Even if it's over spilled water. Because most times, that spilled water is the last straw.

Maybe you've had a rough day or you've just gotten some devastating news. Or maybe your marriage is struggling or your kids are sick. Maybe you're lonely.

Listen to me. Crying doesn't make you weak. It doesn't make you overly dramatic. It makes you REAL.

I don't know your situation, but I do know this: it WILL get better. Eventually. I can't tell you when or how, but it will.

In the meantime, pray. God's listening. Whether you believe it or not, He is. Always.

And for goodness sake, if you wanna cry, sweet friend, you just go right ahead and cry. There's no shame in it.
