Am I writing another blog post about waiting? Yes, yes I am. Because I think we’ve all been through — or are currently going through — seasons of waiting. And it can be frustrating. That’s why I’ve put together this list of Bible verses about waiting on God, to give us a quick reference when we need a little bit of encouragement.
So let’s get to it!
A New Perspective on Waiting
Before we get to the Bible verses, I want to share something the Holy Spirit revealed to me recently.
As you may know, I’ve been in a waiting season for what seems like years and years in a certain area of my life. I’ve had times of waiting well and times of…let’s just say not waiting so well. In the good times and bad, though, I’ve always treated this season as something to endure until God answers my prayers.
Sure, I’ve told myself (and others) to keep moving and obeying God while waiting, but my perspective has been one of being obedient out of duty with the goal of pushing through to better times.
But, y’all. I think that’s the wrong way to look at waiting when it comes to our walk with God. The Lord gave me a whole new perspective the other day.
Instead of just surviving the waiting seasons of life, we should really be thriving in them. Let me explain.
Waiting is not something to simply be endured; it’s something to embrace, a time to intentionally build our faith and develop our character. It may just be the most important season of our faith walk.
It’s in the waiting that God prunes and shapes us. So, why are we trying to struggle through it? Why are we doing just enough to get by until the big answers come?
We may be obeying God, but are we really making the most of that obedience? Are we truly seeking to know him more deeply, to become more and more like him? To prepare our hearts and minds for what he has for us in the future? I know I wasn’t.
What I felt the Holy Spirit so clearly impress on my heart is that waiting is actually a blessing. It’s the time when we become the women God is calling us to be. It’s the time we grow so in love with Jesus that nothing can sway us from the call he has for us.
Waiting is when we develop the character to live a life worthy of the calling we have received, as Paul says in Ephesians.
Let’s take a look at some Bible verses about waiting on God with this new perspective in mind.
